Setup target. Have you got copies of US Army 25m zero target?
Adjust for windage first. 1 click = 1cm @ 100m, so 4 clicks per cm at 25m.
Adjust for elevation. Should be about 4cm high at 25m. This gives a 350m zero out of an M14. Your zero will vary based on barrel length/MV changes using FAL. This is a MilSpec ammo zero: NATO 147g only. Commercial .308 150g will zero slightly differently. Check w/ ballistics program, or troop out to 250m and paste up a target. Make final adjustment at real range w/ commercial ammunition.
The STG58C rifle has iron sights calibrated in meters. The rear sight has elevation increments 100 meters apart between the ranges of 200 and 600. Some models of the STG58 have detents in the windage adjustment while others are friction controlled only. The windage is adjusted by two screws located on either side of the rear sight body. The rear sight is moved in the same direction as the needed movement of the point of impact. For example, if the point of impact is to the right of point of aim, the rear sight must be moved to the left to compensate. The front sight post is also adjustable for elevation. This allows calibration of the 200 meter zero. Physical sighting in of the rifle can be accomplished in numerous ways. The following procedure is one:
- Set up sight in style target at 25 yards
- Set the rear sight at the 200 meter notch
- Fire rifle and adjust windage following the above procedure.
- Adjust front sight elevation (The Entreprise Arms front sight adjustment tool will simplify this operation)
- Rifle is now sighted for a 220 yd point of impact
If sighting is done in metric measurement, here are some basic guidelines:
- A US Army 25 meter zero target should be used
- 1 click = 1 cm at 100 meters - 4 clicks per cm at 25 meters
This is based on using 7.62 Nato 147grain loads. Commercial loads and various manufactures can yield different results.
