gauges. Here are the sizes:

The following is a rule of thumb:
.308 chamber sizes run between 1.630 to 1.633 while 7.62 NATO run
between 1.6325 to 1.638 with an additional .002 for condemning
range. The optimum chamber size is 1.632 to allow the safe
functioning of both loads.
Safe headspacing can be accomplished with the use of the 1.630 and
1.634 gauge. The bolt should close on the 1.630 gauge and not
close on the 1.634 gauge. We use the entire range to specifically
target the headspace in custom assemblies.
