Entréprise Arms STG58C:
An Austrian - American FAL

A Proven Variant of One of the World's Great Battle Rifle

By David M. Fortier

Entréprise Arms is now offering several variants of the Austrian STG 58, Austria's version of the famous FNFAL. These are newly manufactured from Austrian and U.S.-made parts. The author tried both full-length rifle and carbine versions.

Anyone who has spent his life around firearms will always have some favorites-weapons that, for whatever reason, stand out when you walk past a rack of rifles or shotguns. These are firearms that have earned your respect from years of reliable and faithful service. My list of respected friends includes such perennial favorites as the Model 1911 Colt Government Model and Browning Hi-Power as well as the likes of the No. 4 MKI Lee Enfield and AKM And while I don’t own one, another rifle I wouldn’t hesitate to carry into a dangerous situation would be the FN-FAL. A close friend of mine has carried an FAL for the last 15 or so years and that rifle has done nothing except impress me. My friend Al, a former sniper in the 10th Mountain Infantry, is just one of those people that is hard on equipment. He is the only person that I know that could leave in the morning with a perfectly good Lee Enfield and come back in the afternoon with a piece in each hand. Yet for the last 15 years that FAL has been carried all across North America, paddled canoes, taken game, routinely doubled as a fire poke, provided security, and fired countless thousands of rounds. Whether in -50 degree F or 110 above, that old FAL has never missed a beat and always shot superbly. I have a lot of respect for that rifle and its owner.
